A Spanish newspaper estimated that Morocco is using a tactical method in its plan to restore the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in its metropolis, without going to war with its neighbor to the north.
The widespread newspaper “El Espanyol” said in a report, based on the opinions of analyzes of geostrategic experts, that a period ago Morocco had started to activate its plan to influence the two cities to which Spain had the privilege of autonomy grants.
Morocco’s plan, according to the Spanish newspaper, is based on the gradual suffocation of the economies of the two cities, taking advantage of the changing international situation. Noting that the Moroccan authorities started activating their plan long ago, the crossing points to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla had been closed since the end of 2018.
El Espanyol estimated that the outbreak of the “Covid-19” pandemic was a gift in gold to Morocco and it is an opportunity Morocco has taken to tighten its restrictions on the Ceuta and Melilla passages, which started to do it unpopular long before the Corona virus spread.
The Spanish media report added that Morocco’s plan had lost weight, traffic and business, at a time when shipping lines with France and Italy are still operating, in addition to Rabat’s intention to “ activate additional contacts with the UK through Gibraltar .
